Cotton and Cod - How Maine was Built on Fish and Fiber
Cotton and Cod - How Maine was Built on Fish and Fiber, Louis B. Goodall Library, Main Street, Sanford, ME
For centuries, cotton cloth and the lowly cod have had a dramatic influence on Maine, New England, the United States, and the world. From the middle ages to the present, they have shaped economies and lives. In another Singing History presentation, I'll tell the story of Cotton and Cod through songs, anecdotes, and amazing facts. The tale will encompass fishermen, mill girls, slavery, and sea captains, all laced with a large jigger of rum. Songs serious and silly will give you a chance to sing along, have fun, and learn a little too.
